The Pagan Studies Class

(the School of Living Paganism)

Introduction

The Pagan Studies Class is designed for Wiccans, Pagans and all those interested in pagan and occult topics. It is a place to learn, discuss, and share with each other in a safe and friendly environment. The classes meet every Wednesday night (except in the Summer) at 6:30, 7:45p.m.and 9:00 pm in room 4 of the CARE (religious education) building of ERUUF. We are also offering classes for children as well. The classes are facilitated by the Durham Circle of the Sacred Order of Living Paganism.

There are three levels of classes relating to the first three degrees of the Order. People are welcome to join any class at any time and a commitment to pursuing degrees is not required.

The curriculum of these classes is based on a set of learning skills and information devised by the Order as a five degree system of learning and practice. The system was designed so that individuals would set and define their own goals based upon a suggested curriculum. It is not required that anyone commit to this degree system, it is only used as a basis for the planning of this course and its materials. However, those who may be interested in a more intense plan of study may obtain copies and details of the degree system and may be initiated into the Order .

Classes are discussion based. Thus, people of all levels of understanding and experience may participate. By discussing concepts, less experienced people can learn from the more experienced while those with greater experience can have a chance to reexamine their learning and precepts. The classes are free though a $2 donation is requested in order to support this class and the Fellowship. Child care is available and the Fellowship offers an inexpensive vegetarian dinner before the class at 5:30 in the Fellowship Hall. Classes run from September through May.

The class also often performs rituals on the sabbats and on other occasions such as dedications, healing circles, etc.
